Because of the rain on Easter, we did nothing but lay around the house and watch Hogs Gone Wild on TV all afternoon....well "we" being me and Dad(Mom and Little Britches aren't real impressed with that show).
Anyway, after the rain cleared a little and we got bored. So Dad decides that he want's to go hog hunting after watching Hogs Gone Wild. Okie Dokie! I get my old faithful .22-250 and the 6 shells that I had left, and he grabs his new .223(that he only had 6 shells for) and away we go. Not 5 miles up the road we see at least 20 hogs out on the prairie probably 500+ yards. We pull off the road and shoot at them but miss and they scatter. Onward we go, down through the buffalo pastures where the hogs have been tearing up the ground/road
BAD.
Across the pasture we go, and we see something black moving in the 4 foot tall Bluestem. Not sure if it was a buffalo laying down, we slowed down as we got closer. Turn's out, it wasn't a buffalo, it was a 200+ pound black hog! Mister Hog wasn't very scared of us because he trotted across the feed road and stopped about 30 yards away from us and just stood there. By then I've already got my door slung open, jackin shells into my gun and flipping my one scope cap up(I, um, lost the other one somehow...) while dad's trying to get a shell in his gun. And the hog still is just standing there, watching us. I stand up on the muddy running board so i can see good over the grass and
BANG says
my gun, followed shortly by a
BANG from Dad. The hog drops dead in his tracks.....and this is what he looked like

One BIG hog! |

Me with the hog |
|
He had pretty good sized tusks(or 'cutters') |
|
Sharp as razer blades! Defiantly NOT what you want to be bit with! |
On the way home, we saw these:

More Hogs |
|
The buffalo evidently didn't like the hogs... |
We moved out on a ridge and tried to kill that one lone hog in the picture above, but he was just a little too far out of range for our guns.
So after running almost completely out of shells, and with the rain starting in again, me and Dad headed home after a successful evening of hog huntin! :)
